Arteta: I am happy Spain won EURO 2024, sad Saka, Rice lost

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta says he was both happy and sad with the outcome of the EURO 2024 final which saw Spain beat England 2-1 to lift the trophy for the fourth time.

Arteta said he is still ‘extremely proud of my country, and it was a great moment for us to win.’

The Premier League manager says the present generation of Spanish players in the national team ‘had to really earn it in the last few years to get that belief.’

The Arsenal boss is however sad his players in the Three Lions squad to the championship, Bujakyo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale and Declan Rice lost.

‘I was sad because you love your players and you want the best for them, and it was a tough moment for them,’ said the Gunners’ boss at the press conference heralding the club’s pre-season tour of the USA

On Arsenal’s pre-season training camp so far, Arteta says he is happy with on the mood of the players.

‘It’s been very positive since day one. We started at Marbella for two weeks and then we had a week off. When the players arrived back at the Sobha Realty Training Centre they were at it straight away. It’s not a surprise because they’re a joy of a team to work with – even today, straight away with jet lag and high temperatures, they train at the same intensity,’ he said.
