Paris 2024 Olympics: D’Tigress move up to number five in FIBA power rankings

Bottom of the rankings among the 12 teams taking part in the women’s basketball event at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics, Nigeria’s D’Tigress has moved up to number five after the first round of games.

D’Tigress’ famous upset win against Australia, the world number three, has got the basketball talking and FIBA has responded with an update on its power rankings for competition in Paris, France.

FIBA says the foundation of D’Tigress’ success and their first win at the event in 20 years was some stellar defense. It was rugged at times, but it did the job and completely knocked Australia out of their offensive stride.

Ezinne Kalu agreed D’Tigress’ performance has been down to a solid defence.

‘Our defense was relentless. Nobody defends quite like us. When we are on the court, we smell blood. Nobody defends quite like us and that is what keeps us going,’ Kalu told FIBA website.

FIBA also waxed lyrical about the Nigerians defeated the Opals

They did so in real style and with authority. Something which shows that maybe they have more in them to push on,’ wrote FIBA on its website.
