Ajayi gets Olympic champion, Jacobs in first ever Olympics 100m race
Ashe to race against Seville in heat four
Nigeria 100m king, Kanyinsola Ajayi has been drawn to compete for the three automatic qualifying tickets on offer in his heat (5) against reigning Olympic champion, Lamont Marcell Jacobs as well as South Africa’s U20 star, Benjamin Richardson and Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu in his first ever race at the Olympics.
The 19 year old who stormed into national and NCAA reckoning this year with a series of performances under 10.10 seconds is the third fastest in the group with his 10.00 seconds lifetime best and should, on paper, be among the three automatic qualifiers for Sunday’s semifinals.
Nigeria’s second athlete in the event, Favour Ashe will run in heat four and has been drawn against Jamaican star, Oblique Seville who ran 9.82 this year and Abdul Hakim Sani Brown of Japan who has also broken 10 seconds (9.99) this year.
The Nigerian is the second fastest in the group with the 9.94 lifetime best he ran in May and should also make it to Sunday’s final.
