Paris 2024 Olympics: Onwuzurike seeks ‘revenge’, semifinals ticket in 200m heat
Former World U20 200m champion, Nigeria’s Udodi Onwuzurike will be seeking to achieve two goals when he files out for the half lap event at the main bowl of the Stade de France in Saint-Dennis on Monday morning.
the 21 year old Nigerian, making his first ever appearance at the Olympic stage will be looking to secure a place in the semifinals of the event as well as get past Ugandan, Tarsis Gracious Orogot who supplanted the Nigerian as the third fastest man in Collegiate history in the event.
Orogot ran 19.75 in the NCAA circuit to drop Onwuzurike’s 19.76 lifetime he ran on his way to winning the NCAA 200m outdoor title in 2023 to fourth in the all-time list.
The stats do not favour the Nigerian to get his revenge as he has not broken 20 seconds this year while the Ugandan holds a 19.75 personal season and lifetime best but his 21.13 personal season’s best, the fourth fastest in the heat this year should make Onwuzurike a contender for one of the three automatics tickets on offer.
