Ezinne Kalu: ‘We keep our heads held high!
Ezinne Kalu was the main architect of D’Tigress’ historic run at the Women’s basketball event at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics, defeating better ranked Australia and Canada in the group phase to become the first African team in Olympic history, men or women, to make the Quarterfinals.
The guard was a constant thorn in the side of her opponents and says D’Tigress are leaving Paris with their head held high after losing to USA to exit the competition at the quarterfinal stage.
Kalu took to her social media page to acknowledge the team’s historic feats with a promise that they will be back.
‘In order to be the best, you have to beat the best and unfortunately, we fell short of that last night against USA but we keep our heads HELD HIGH!!
‘I am so proud of what we have accomplished even when all odds were stacked against us! We stayed solid but most importantly we stayed TOGETHER.
‘1st African team (men and women) to advance past group stage in Olympics.
‘1st African team (men and women) to play in Olympic Quarterfinals.
‘And still…. NAIJA NO DEY CARRY LAST.
‘Los Angeles Olympics 2028…. LOADING,’ she wrote.
