After gulping N9b, Team Nigeria officially ends Paris 2024 Olympics without a medal

After gulping a whopping sum of nine-billion-naira, Team Nigeria has officially finished its engagements at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France, without winning a single medal.

Wrestler, Hannah Reuben was the last athlete left to rescue a nation of over 200 million but, like those before her, she failed to deliver the podium appearance badly needed, leaving the Sports Minister, John Enoh with loads of explaining to do.

Reuben lost her second-round fight in the women’s freestyle wrestling 76kg by 5-2 to Mongolia’s Davaanasan Amar Enkh.

A day earlier, high hurdler, the ever-reliable Tobi Amusan faltered at the semifinals for the second time in three Olympic Games appearances while the men’s 4x400m relay team was disqualified for lane infringement despite qualifying for the final.

With 88 athletes taken to the Games, this is, officially Nigeria’s worst outing at the Olympics, supplanting London 2012 Olympics where Nigeria did not also win medals but went with 49 athletes.

The next Olympics will be staged in 2028 in Los Angeles, where Nigeria won her first track and field medal.
