FIFA Women’s World Ranking: Super Falcons still Africa’s top ranked team, 36th in the world
Nigeria is still the top ranked nation in Africa in female football after the update on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking on Friday.
The Super Falcons retain their ranking as the 36th best in the world and first in Africa, a position they have held since March this year when they dropped from 34th in December 2023 to 36th.
South Africa’s Bayana Bayana is second behind Nigeria in Africa and 50th in the world after moving a step up from their 51st ranking in June.
Morocco is third in Africa and 59th in the world while Zambia, who were at the Paris 2024 Olympics, moved two steps to 62nd in the world and fourth in Africa, with Ghana completing the top five list in Africa albeit they are ranked 66th in the world.
Meanwhile, USA reclaim top spot after winning Olympic gold in Paris, 12 months after being ousted from the top of the World Ranking.
England have climbed one spot at the expense of Spain, who are now in third after seeing their bid for Olympic glory ended with defeat to Brazil in the semi-finals, which was promptly followed by another reverse at the hands of Germany (4th) in the bronze-medal match.
The Germans, meanwhile, have held on to their position in the ranking, as have Japan (7th), who were beaten in the quarter-finals by USA.
