Kipyegon to return to Diamond League arena at the Golden Gala in Rome

Three-time Olympic 1500m champion and four-time World champion, Faith Kipyegon will be returning to the Diamond League arena for the first time after her historic feat at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Kenyan will race over the 1500m at the Golden Gala in Rome with one aim: to win and boost her chances of competing in the Diamond League final next month in Brussels, Belgiumwhere she will be seeking for her sixth Diamond League title win.

The first time Kipyegon appeared in the Diamond League this season, she did with a bang, lowering the 3:49.11 1500m world record she set last year in Florence with a 3:49.04 best at the Meeting de Paris in Paris, France just three weeks to the start of the athletics event at the Paris 2024 Paris Olympics.

A win for Kipyegon will likely be enough to put her among the 10 athletes that will run in the final in Brussels. She is currently ranked ninth in the 1500m standing with eight points, same as Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay who occupies the 10th qualifying spot but will not be in Silesia on Sunday and Rome on August 30.

Also in with a chance of qualifying are Great Britain duo of Bell Georgia (eight points) and Courtney-Bryant Melissa (seven points) as well as Australia’s Hall Linden (seven points).

The trio will be in Silesia on Sunday but only Linden has a realistic chance of moving above Kipyegon if the Kenyan wins in Rome because the Aussie will also be at the Golden Gala.
