Nugent runs 12.29 to break Amusan’s 100m hurdles Silesia Diamond League meeting record

Ackera Nugent ran her second (12.29) and third (12.30) fastest times to win her first 100m hurdles event at a Diamond League meeting in Silesia, Poland on Thursday.

The Jamaican, the second fastest this year (12.28) behind Masai Russell (12.25), the Olympic champion first ran 12.30 to qualify for the final. The time broke the 12.34 meeting record Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan ran last year at the same venue to win.

Nuggent, who was all nerves at the Paris 2024 Olympics and could not finish the final, ran a 100th of a second faster in the final to win ahead of American, Grace Stark who ran 12.37 for second and fellow Jamaican and two-time world champion, Danielle Williams who ran 12.38 to place third.

Nuggent, who looks injured at the end of the race has now moved from 10th in the standing to third with 14 points behind former Olympic champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn who leads with 24 points and Williams who is second with 21 points.

Amusan remains 14th with the four points she got for finishing fifth in Xiamen in China in April.

Unless she gets a wild card to compete, the Nigerian is definitely out of next month’s Diamond League final following her non-listing in the Golden Gala meet at the end of the month in Rome, Italy.
