Romano: Why Osimhen chose jersey number 45 at Galatasaray
Galatasaray President, Özbek delighted to have the Nigerian in Turkey

International football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano says Victor Osimhen has chosen to wear jersey number 45 five years after he last worn it because he felt it brought him luck the first time he did.
The Nigerian was not short of ‘normal’ options when it came to squad numbers that he could have chosen, especially as a forward. The number seven shirt is currently vacant.
Romano has however revealed the 25-year-old has instead decided that he wants to don the number 45 for the 2024-25 campaign.
During the 2018-19 season, Osimhen wore that number with Belgian side Charleroi, where he netted 20 goals from 36 appearances in all competitions.
That was during his second season in Europe after the number 18 he worn at Wolsburg in the German Bundesliga saw him go 16 games without a goal in his first season in Europe.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek has expressed his satisfaction with the addition of the Nigerian to the club.
‘Victor is a very important transfer for Turkish sports, for Galatasaray… Galatasaray fans have very high expectations from him. As a Galatasaray fan, we are happy to have world-class football players at the club. He’s going to make a big contribution to us in this year’s fight,’ he said.
