Rohr defends 3-0 loss to Eagles, says Nigerians are more talented than his Cheetahs
Cheetahs of Benin coach, Gernot Rohr says his team lost to a much superior Nigerian team, loaded with superstars in all departments.
Rohr’s Cheetahs were hammered 3-0 by the Super Eagles in their opening group game of the qualifiers for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Two goals from Ademola Lookman and a great goal by Victor Osimhen ensured Nigeria started their campaign on a winning note.
Rohr has revealed why his team lost.
‘What didn’t work is that we don’t have the same means as this Nigeria team. When you see the Nigerian squad, they are all very high-level players who play for their clubs. And unfortunately, we have players who don’t play much for their clubs.
‘So, we can’t compare the two squads. We managed to beat them at home. This gave them extra motivation to take their revenge, which is normal.
‘And we saw stars present today who were not there the last time we played them in Abidjan, captain (William) Troost-Ekong, also (Victor) Osimhen… You can see that there are resources in this team that we don’t have,’ Rohr said after the match played at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.
