Oluwafemiayo breaks world record to win Paralympics gold in Paris!

Breaking records is not new to Folashade Oluwafemiayo.

The Nigerian Paralympian has just broken the women’s over 86kg Paralympics and world record, setting a new world record of 167kg in Para Powerlifting to clinch the gold medal at the La Chapelle Arena, Paris at the ongoing Paralympics.

This is the second time this year that Oluwafemiayo would be setting a world record. The first was at the 2024 World Para Powerlifting Championship in Tbilisi, Georgia. There she lifted an impressive 165kg.

Oluwafemiayo also won gold three years ago for Nigeria at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

Nigeria has now won two gold medals at the Games, and both came from Para Powerlifting after Onyinyechi Mark won Nigeria’s first in the Women’s up to 61kg category.

As at the last count, Nigeria has now won seven medals at the Games, made up of two gold, three silver and two bronze.

In 2021, Nigeria won a total number of 10 made up of four gold, one silver and five bronze medals.
