Omanyala second in Zagreb with 10.02 behind Lindsey
Ferdinand Omanyala failed to become the second man since 2020 to win the 100m event two years in a row after American, Michael Rodgers after outrunning only six of the athletes who started the race with him at the Memorial Borisa Hanžekovića 2024, a World Athletics Continental Tour gold meeting in Zagreb, Croatia on Sunday.
The Kenyan, the fastest in the line up before the race ran 10.02 seconds behind American, Courtney Lindsey who ran 9.97 to win.
Rommell Glave of Great Britain was third in 10.11 while the second African man in the race, Joseph Fahnbulleh came in fifth in 10.20 seconds.
Omanyala has had an underwhelming season after raising expectations of becoming the first African since the 1996 Olympics to win a 100m medal at the greatest multisport fiesta in the world.
The 28-year-old went to the Paris 2024 Olympics as the second fastest (9.79) man in the world behind Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson (9.77).
He however flattered to deceive as he failed to neither break 10 seconds in Paris nor race into the final.
The Kenyan will be hoping to stay fit and deliver at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan next year.
