Premier League: Iwobi eyes record seventh assist against West Ham

Alex Iwobi has provided six assists in 13 Premier League games against West Ham, the most he has done against any side in the English topflight and the Nigerian will be aiming for a record extending seventh when his club, Fulham face the Hammers who will visit the Craven Cottage on Saturday in a Premier League match week four fixture.

Iwobi will also be seeking to move clear of Nwankwo Kanu as the Nigerian with the most assists in Premier League history. The 28-year-old is tied with Nwankwo Kanu with 29 assists each and one more against a team he has provided the most assists against will look like a real possibility.

The former Arsenal player has also won seven of the 13 Premier League games he has played against the Hammers, the joint most he has won against any team in the Premier League (Burnley and Southampton also in 13 games).

Iwobi has played 17,076 minutes of Premier League football since he made his debut in October 2015. It is the most by any Nigerian in the history of the competition and he will be looking to extend his further even as he is also looking to close the gap between him and Kanu in the list of Nigerians with the most appearances in the Premier League.

Kanu played 273 games in the Premier League to sit second behind Shola Ameobi (298) as the Nigerian with the most appearances in the history of the competition. Iwobi has played 256 times and one more on Saturday will give him the confidence he can surpass Kanu his season and he will only need to play only 17 out of the remaining 34 games that will be left for Fulham to play this season.

Iwobi was subbed off on 87 minutes in Fulham’s 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town at Portman Road just before the international break. If he is subbed off on Saturday against West Ham, it will the 109th time he would have done that in the competition, the most by any Nigerian in Premier League history.
