Lookman, Boniface named in Whoscored’s European Team of the Week

Nigeria forwards, Ademola Lookman and Victor Boniface have been included among the best 11 players in last weekend’s round of matches in Europe’s top five leagues viz Premier League (England), Serie A (Italy), Ligue 1 (France), LaLiga (Spain) and Bundesliga (Germany) by football statistics website, Whoscored.

While Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane (10.0) was adjudged the star performer in the European Team of the Week after shinning in Bayern Munich’s win at Holstein Kiel, the Nigerian duo of Boniface (0.56) and Lookman (9.40) ranked second and third best respectively.

Boniface is listed alongside Kane as the two strikers in a 4-4-2 formation with Lookman as one of the four midfielders.

Whoscored rated the Nigerians highly for impressing for their clubs.

‘Atalanta geared up for their Champions League meeting with Arsenal with a 3-2 win over Fiorentina as Ademola Lookman shone on his first league appearance of the season.

‘Lookman was directly involved in two of three goals, netting with one of five shots and providing one assist from three key passes, while five successful dribbles helped the 26-year-old to a WhoScored rating of 9.40,’ wrote the football statistics website.

For Boniface, Whoscored wrote thus: ‘Joining Kane on the frontline is Bayer Leverkusen hitman Victor Boniface after he landed a WhoScored rating of 9.56 in Saturday’s 4-1 win at Hoffenheim.

‘Boniface scored his first and second league goals of the season from seven shots in the comfortable victory, and provided one assist to secure his place in the XI.’
