Enekwechi, Amusan, Others to earn much more at Diamond League meetings from 2025
Shot Putter, Chukwebuka Enekwechi and sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan will earn much more from 2025 than they earned this year in the Wanda Diamond League following the decision of the organizers to ‘increase athlete prize money to the highest levels in the series’ history from next season.’
In 2024, Enekwechi earned a total of $9, 250 from five appearances in the competition with his highest earning secured in his opening Diamond League of the season in Eugene, USA where he placed third. He earned $3,500 for that, $1,000 more than he earned for placing fifth in the final in Brussels, Belgium.
Tobi Amusan earned just $1,250 from placing fifth in the Xiamen, China, the opening Diamond League event of the year. She was disqualified for false starting seven days later in Suzhou, also in China for false starting and never participated in the remaining meetings where the 100m hurdles featured.
Wanda Diamond League organizers have now said the duo and indeed other athletes, from Nigeria, Africa and indeed across the globe will now earn much more.
Under the new structure, the total prize money awarded per meeting will be US$500,000 at each of the 14 regular series meetings, and US$2,240,000 at the Wanda Diamond League Final.
The total prize money per discipline will be between US$30,000 and US$50,000 at the series meetings and between US$60,000 and US$100,000 at the Final which, in some instances will double what is presently obtainable.
With 15 meetings in 13 countries on four different continents, the series provides elite athletes from across the globe with a chance to compete at the highest level from April to September.
