Boniface hailed for his ‘Boni-trick’ in Leverkusen Champions League win at Feyenoord

Victor Boniface has been described as a crucial cog in Bayer Leverkusen’s all-conquering machine and the Nigerian proved it once again on Thursday night at de Kuip where the German champion demolished their host, Feyenoord in their opening group game of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League.

The Nigerian, who joined Xabi Alonso’s side from Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer of 2023, was not on target on the night but made more headlines than the actual goal scorers.

He didn´t have to score to make a big impression for Bayer Leverkusen but did with an exquisite piece of footwork in the build-up to the second goal in a 4-0 win at Feyenoord, the Nigeria striker earned the praise of his teammates – and plenty of soccer fans on social media.

The Super Eagle was on the edge of the area when he pretended to shoot with his right foot, only to play the ball wide to Jeremie Frimpong with his left foot in the same movement in a move that resulted in Leverkusen’s second goal of the night.

“That´s his signature move. I think he´s the best at doing it in the soccer world,’ said Leverkusen forward Florian Wirtz who netted a brace.

Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso concurred and called it a “Boni-trick.”
