Makinde: Ibadan Marathon aims to position Oyo State as a hub for sports, commerce, and entertainment

The inaugural edition of the Ibadan Marathon is aimed to position Oyo State as a hub for sports, commerce, and entertainment, says Seyi Makind, the executive Governor of Oyo state.

Represented by Wosilat Adegoke, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports at a world press conference in Ibadan, the Governor says the event boost local businesses, create employment opportunities, and foster community bonds.

‘This initiative not only promotes health and fitness but also bolsters our local economy while showcasing the beauty of our vibrant city. The Ibadan Marathon provides a wonderful opportunity for runners, families, and spectators to come together in celebration of sportsmanship and community spirit,’ said Makinde.

‘The event will also promote Ibadan’s cultural heritage and attracting visitors from across Nigeria and beyond, thereby fostering economic growth’, added the Commissioner.

Arinola Idowu, CEO of Savvy Events Limited who owns the franchise for the 42.195km road race says the race has ‘ERE IDARAYA,’ as its theme and is designed to celebrate the ancient city’s unity, strength, and rich history.

The race course has been measured by World Athletics accredited course measurer, Norrie Williamson. The race will end at the Lekan Salami stadium in Ibadan

The race is expected to attract both local and international athletes which will put the city on the map of the world as a destination for sports.
