Onuachu still waiting for first Southampton game in over a year as Iwobi, Ndidi, Bassey start again

Paul Onuachu has been left out of Southampton’s squad for Saturday’s Premier League game at Ipswich Town, the fifth straight time that would happen this season.

The Nigerian’s much talked about transfer to Turkish Super Lig side, Trabzonspor did not materialize while the player resisted the attempt to sell him to another club in Turkey, Gotzepe.

That means the 30 year old is staying at the Saint Mary’s stadium until at least January when the transfer window reopens and it also means he is available for selection since he has been registered for the club for the season.

He is however not in the squad to face Ipswich and has not featured for Southampton since May 2023.

Also, his compatriot at the club, Joe Aribo, has been named as one of the substitutes for the second game in a row. He did not play in the 3-0 loss to Manchester United last week but the 28 year old will be hoping he gets subbed on at some stage on Saturday.

At the King Power stadium, Wilfred Ndidi will be looking to score his first goal of the Premier League campaign on his fifth straight start.

The 27 year old has provided three assists so far and will be hoping he also gets another in addition to scoring.

If he scores, it will not only be his first of the season in the competition but also his first against Everton in 11 Premier League games. An assist will also be his second against the Toffess.

At Craven Cottage, the duo of Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey will also be making their fifth start in a row in the competition.

While Iwobi will also be playing his 40th game across all competitions for the Cottagers, it will be Bassey’s 30th start in 34 games in the Premier League.
