Osimhen’s market value drops from €100m to €75m
Victor Osimhen’s market value has dropped from €100m to €75m following Transfermarkt’s update on the Turkish Super Lig market values.
The Nigerian made history as the first Nigerian to hit the €100m valuation in March 2023 and rose by €20m to an all-time high of €120m in June 2023 following his incredible Serie A season when he scored 26 goals in 32 games to inspire Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years.
Osimhen’s value dropped, first to €110m in December 2023 and later to €100m six months following his injury ravaged season when he could only score 17 goals in 32 matches across all competitions.
The 25 year old missed 20 matches last season largely due to injuries and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
He moved to the Turkish Super Lig following his inability to secure a move, first to PSG, then Chelsea and Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.
Transfermarkt’s Türkiye Area Manager Gökhan Yagmur believes Osimhen’s is an exception in Turkish football.
‘Osimhen is an exception in Turkish football. The striker only arrived under exceptional circumstances. Similar to Zaniolo back in the day. He wanted to leave Napoli, but the Italians expected€130m .
‘But when top clubs like PSG and Chelsea were unable to meet Napoli’s demands, and Osimhen refused a transfer to Saudi Arabia, Gala made the most of the situation.’
‘Galatasaray was willing to take on his salary, and Napoli agreed that Osimhen could be bought out of his loan deal for €75m,’ said Yagmur.
Transfermarkt says the €75m exit clause is the new benchmark for Osimhen’s new market value.
‘If a club wants to buy Osimhen they have to pay €75m. With that in mind, whether Osimhen is playing well or not is almost secondary. Hence, a downgrade was unavoidable for now. But if he stays at Galatasaray beyond the January window, then we will have to reevaluate the situation.’
The €75m market value still makes the Nigerian the most valuable player in Turkey and Nigeria, 31st among all players in the world and sixth most valuable forward in the world.
