NPFL Preview: Remo Stars looking to make it five wins in five games, Shooting Stars seeking for first away win
Remo Stars will look to extend their 100% run in the Nigeria Premier Football League by securing their fifth straight win when they visit the Kwara State Sports Complex in Ilorin to face their host, Kwara United.
In the last six games between the two clubs, Remo Stars have won thrice, drawn once and lost twice
The Ikenne-based side have won five of their last six games in the NPFL while the Afonja Warriors have won twice, lost twice and drawn twice.
Both sides won their home games last season when they met in the competition. While Remo Stars won 2-0 at the Remo Stars stadium in Ikenne last December, Kwara United won the reverse fixture in Ilorin 3-2 in May this year with the visitors scoring twice in the final minutes of the game to attempt a futile fightback.
Remo Stars will be encouraged by that fightback and hope they can extend their unbeaten to five games.
The Kunle Soname boys made history as the first club since 2008 to win its first three games of the season keeping clean sheets in all.
Rangers ensured that record was not extended to four games last week when they scored in their 2-1 loss.
Also on Saturday and at the Lafia Township Stadium, bottom of the log, Lobi Stars will play Shooting Stars as they aim for their first win in five matches while the visiting Oluyole Warriors will be looking to bounce back from the loss to Bendel Insurance in a rescheduled game mid-week at the Ogbemudia stadium in Benin.
Lobi Stars have one point in four matches this season, which they picked up in the 0-0 draw against Akwa United in their first game of the 2024/2025 NPFL campaign at home.
Subsequently, they suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Rivers United, lost 2-1 at Enyimba and got thrashed 3-0 by Katsina United last weekend, turning to prayers following their terrible start to the new campaign.
The NPFL encounter between Lobi Stars and Shooting Stars is expected to be action-packed, especially with the two teams having so far failed to live up to their expected heights since the beginning of the season.
Lobi Stars have drawn one and lost the other of their two home games this season and have lost both of their away games.
The Makurdi-based team won this fixture last season 2-1 with an 84th minute penalty converted by Orji Okagbue in November last year while Shooting Stars won 2-0 in Ibadan in the reverse fixture in April this year.
