AFCON 2025: Ndidi set for 60th Super Eagles game, Lookman needs brace to hit 10 goals
Wilfred Ndidi has been named among the eleven Super Eagles to start Friday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Libya at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom state.
The Leicester City player, according to transfermarkt, will be making his 60th appearance for Nigeria after making his debut in October 2015 in a 2-0 loss to DR Congo in an international friendly game at the Stade de la Cite de l’Oie in Belgium.
The 27-year-old is also making his 53rd start for Nigeria.
Also listed to start is Fulham midfielder, Alex Iwobi who will be starting his 67th start in 82 appearances while rave of the moment, Ademola Lookman will be playing for the 26th time for his fatherland.
The Atalanta of Italy forward has started 18 of the games and netted eight times. A brace against Libya will take his total haul to 10 in only 26 appearances.
Stand-in captain, William Troost-Ekong is starting his 71st game in 74 appearances for the Super Eagles.
Bayer Leverkusen forward, Victor Boniface is starting for the third straight game for Nigeria and in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
The 23-year-old has started four of the eight appearances he has made for Nigeria but has not scored in a competitive game, only netting once in a 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia in an international friendly.
Boniface has however had a goal involvement in a competitive game for the team as he provided an assist for Samuel Chukwueze to score the sixth goal in the 6-0 mauling of São Tomé and Príncipe at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in September 2023.
