Iheanacho seeking to become seventh Nigerian to score Vs Barcelona in LaLiga

Will Kelechi Iheanacho choose Sevilla’s visit to Barcelona to score his first LaLiga goal of the season?

The 28-year-old Nigerian is in his club’s 23-man team to Camp Nou for the matchweek 10 tie and he knows he needs to score as soon as possible as fans are growing impatient with the Nigerian’s lack of goal since his move to Spain as a free agent.

Iheanacho has featured five times in 10 LaLiga games played so far this season and started three of the games. He was however an unused substitute when Sevilla defeated Real Betis in a Seville derby just before the international break.

If he scores at the Camp Nou on Sunday, ‘Senior man,’ as he is fondly called will become the seventh Nigerian after Odion Ighalo, Ramon Azeez, Christopher Ohenhen, Finidi George, Kalu Uche and Samuel Chukwueze to score against the Catalan giants in the LaLiga.

Ighalo scored Granada’s goal in the 2-1 loss at the Nuevo Los Cármenes in February 2013 and that was his only goal in three appearances against Barcelona.

Former Nigeria U17 star, Azeez also scored once in five LaLiga games against Barcelona and it was Granada’s first in a 2-0 win at the Nuevo Los Cármenes in September 2019.

Kalu Uche scored once in six LaLiga games against Barcelona in the colours of Almeria and Levante. The Nigerian netted the equalizer in UD Almeria’s 2-2 draw at the Power Horse Stadium in March 2008.

Former Flying Eagles forward, Ohenhen however scored twice in four appearances for SD Compostela against Barcelona. The first was a 76th winner in a 2-1 victory at theVerónica Boquete de San Lázaro in October 1995.

The duo of Finidi George and Samuel Chukwueze scored thrice each against the Catalans.

Chukwueze scored his three goals for Villarreal in nine appearances against Barcelona while Finidi netted his three goals in nine appearances for Real Betis and RCD Mallorca against Barcelona with two of the goals coming in eight LaLiga games for Real Betis.
