NPFL: Finidi remains unbeaten, makes it six wins in eight games as Amokachi crashes with Lobi Stars
Finidi George extended his unbeaten start to the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League to eight games after leading Rivers United to a 1-0 win away at Niger Tornadoes.
The former Super Eagles winger and manager made it two wins in four away games to inflict on Tornadoes their first loss at home this season at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna.
Seiyefa Jackson’s 47th minute goal was enough to hand Finidi his sixth win in eight matches and a return to the top of the log, supplanting Remo Stars who temporarily moved top 24 hours earlier after beating Bendel Insurance 1-0 at the Remo Stars stadium in Ikenne.
Rivers United now have 20 points from eight games, two more than Remo Stars who have moved back to second on the log while Enyimba, who lost 1-0 at El Kanemi Warriors are still third with 14 points from same number of matches.
Meanwhile, Ikorodu City inflicted Daniel Amokachi with his first loss of the season after signing on as Lobi Stars coach at the start of this month.
The Oga Boys won the game 4-2 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena at Onikan in Lagos.
The NPFL newcomers scored twice in the opening 19 minutes of the game via Salau Yusuf (2nd minute) and Emmanuel Solomon (19th minute) but were pegged back by the visitors through Ifeanyi Assurance who netted a brace in added first half minutes.
The homers scored two quick goals less than 10 minutes after the restart via Solomon Alade (56th minute) and Rivio Ayemwenre (58th minute) to restore their two-goal advantage and secure all three points, their second ever in the competition following their 3-0 mauling of Bendel Insurance earlier in the month.
Amokachi has now remained winless in his first three games as Lobi Stars coach.
