Ndidi gunning for 80th win in 201st Premier League game, Awoniyi set for 60th game for Forest
Wilfred Ndidi has helped Leicester City secure their first back-to-back Premier League wins so far this term and the Nigerian will be seeking to make it three in a row on Friday at the King Power stadium where they will host Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi’s Nottingham Forest in a match week nine game.
If the Foxes win, it will be the Nigerian’s 80th in the Premier League since he joined from Belgian Jupiler Pro League side, KRC Genk in January 2017 and it will move him above Yakubu Aiyegbeni as the eighth Nigerian with the most wins in the history of the competition.
Chelsea legend, Mikel Obi holds the record with 149 wins in the 249 appearances he made in the competition between 2006 and 2016.
Mikel is followed by Nwankwo Kanu who won as many as 113 games in 273 appearances in the competition for Arsenal and Portsmouth while Shola Ameobi, with 105 wins from 298 appearances in the colours of Newcastle (294) and Crystal Palace (4) is third.
Alex Iwobi has moved a win above Victor Moses this season with 104 wins while Joseph Yobo (91) and Celestine Babayaro (88) complete the top seven list.
Ndidi will also be looking to make his 187th start in 201 games and his first in his first ever Premier League appearance against Aina’s club.
Meanwhile, Taiwo Awoniyi will be looking to make his second start in six Premier League games this season and his 31st in 53 games since he made his debut in the competition in August 2022.
The 27-year-old will also be making his 60th appearance across all competitions for Forest if he gets to play.
