Leicester City 1-3 Nottingham Forest: Ndidi becomes seventh Nigerian with most Premier League defeats in history

Wilfred Ndidi has become the seventh Nigerian with the most Premier League defeats following Friday’s defeat of Leicester City by Nottingham Forest at the King Power stadium.

The visitors, with their two Nigerian imports, Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi, won the 3-1 to inflict on their host and Ndidi their fourth defeat of the season in nine games.

More importantly, it was Ndidi’s 80th defeat in 201 appearances in the Premier League since January 2017 when he switched from Belgian Pro League side, KRC Genk.
The defeat still makes the 27-year-old the seventh Nigerian with the most defeats in Premier League history.

Shola Ameobi tops the list with 116 defeats in the 298 appearances he made in the competition in the colours of Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.

Ameobi is followed by Yakubu Aiyegbeni who lost 108 times in 252 games in the competition for Portsmouth, Everton, Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers while Alex Iwobi joined the 100th club of Premier League defeats this season with 101 following the back-to-back losses to Man City and Aston Villa.

With Nwankwo (85 defeats in 273 games) and Joseph Yobo (84 defeats from 228 matches) retired and Kelechi Iheanacho (87 defeats from 196 games) not playing in the Premier League, Ndidi looks likely to be the fourth Nigerian to lose at least 100 games in the competition.

For Aina, who was on from the start for the ninth Premier League game in a row, it was his 18th win in 65 Premier League games while Awoniyi, who came with just nine minutes left in regulation time, it his 15th in 53 appearances.
