Manchester United announce Amorim as new head coach

Ruben Amorim as has been named the new Manchester United manager, becoming the sixth permanent manager at Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement 11 years ago.

The 39-year-old Portuguese will officially start at Old Trafford on Monday 11 November, with interim head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy in charge until then.

He replaces Dutchman Erik ten Hag, who left on Monday after two-and-a-half years in charge.

Amorim has agreed a deal until June 2027, with Man United having the option of an additional year. The club say the move is subject to work visa requirements.

Man United currently sit in 14th place in the Premier League, seven points off fourth spot and only seven points above the relegation zone.

Amorim’s first match will be against Ipswich Town on Sunday 24 November.
