Johnson: Why we signed Ngetich and Gebreselama to run in Grand Slam Track
Former World and Olympics 200m and 400m champion, Michael Johnson says the distance running duo of Kenyan, Agnes Ngetich and Ethiopia’s Tsigie Gebreselama will be competing in his new, game-changing athletics event, the Grand Slam Track next year and revealed why they have come on board.
Johnson announced the signing of the renowned long-distance runners on Friday.
‘Agnes and Tsigie embody the spirit of Grand Slam Track. Their dedication, talent, and competitive drive make them ideal additions to our roster of Racers.
‘We are confident they will inspire fans and help to elevate our sport to the levels it deserves.
‘Their addition solidifies our position as the new global home of track racing, and we can’t wait to see them entertain millions of fans around the world in 2025,’said Johnson, the league’s founder and Commissioner.
Ngetich set a new world best in the 10km (28:46) this January in Valencia and secured the second-fastest time in history in the half marathon with her 1:03:04 run at the Valencia Half Marathon last month.
Gebreselama boasts an impressive resume across a wide variety of surfaces – on the track, on the road, and in cross country and she is delighted to get signed by Johnson.
