Ademola Lookman scored twice in the first half to inspire Atalanta to a 3-0 win at Serie A leaders, Napoli in a match week 11 game at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in Naples on Sunday afternoon.
The Nigerian scored on 10 and 31 minutes to lead La Dea to a 2-0 first half lead and has now scored six times in eight Serie A games so far this term and 16th in 2024.
Lookman has also scored once in three UEFA Champions League games to bring his total haul this season to seven in 12 games across all competitions.
He has provided four assists this season in eight Serie A games and one in the Champions League to make it five assists in 12 matches in the 2024/25 season.
With his goals on Sunday, Lookman is now the Serie A player to have been directly involved in the most goals in 2024 in all competitions: 27, for Atalanta (16 goals, 11 assists).
The Nigerian missed five games early this year due to his involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria and an ankle injury he sustained during the competition which made him miss another Serie A game.
Meanwhile, Lookman, who was named man-of-the-match has hailed the performance of the team for the impressive win at Napoli.
‘It was a big performance from the team, we’re happy and three points away to the leaders is never easy, so we’re proud of that,’ Lookman told DAZN and spoke about his Ballon d’Or nomination.
‘Individual achievements are part of football, but this is a team game, my squad helps me a lot. I continue working and try to help the team when I can,’ he said.
