Moraa: Grand Slam Track’s a chance to elevate my career and represent Kenya on the global stage
Reigning World 800m champion, Mary Moraa is thrilled to be signed on as one of Grand Slam Track racers, the new global stage for elite track competition founded by four-time US Olympic Champion Michael Johnson.
Moraa who won the 800m bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics is the third Kenyan to be confirmed for the event after Agnes Ngetich and Ronald Kwemoi.
The 24-year-old reigning Commonwealth Games champion who is also the Kenyan record holder for the 400 meters and holds the world record in the 600 meters was crowned the Diamond League 800m champion in 2022 and 2024 and has a personal best of 1:56.03 in the 800m.
‘I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Grand Slam Track. This is a big step for me, and I’m determined to work hard and give my absolute best in every race. Competing in all four Slam events will push me to be better and to keep growing as an athlete.
‘I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead and know this is a chance to truly elevate my career, and represent Kenya on the global stage,’ said a delighted Moraa.
The Kenyan will be hoping 2024 world leader in the event, Keely Hodgkinson also becomes a racer so she can have the chance to extend their rivalry on the track to 2025.
The two athletes have met 13 times in head to head clashes with the Briton winning eight times including that big win at the Paris 2024 Olympics while Moraa has won five times which includes the victories at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2023 World Athletics Championships.
