Incredible Saka named MOTM in Arsenal’s record-equaling UEFA Champions League away win

Bukayo Saka has been named Player of the Match by UEFA’s Technical Observer Panel after the 23-year-old provided an assist and scored to help Arsenal annihilated their host, Sporting CP at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon on Tuesday night.

Saka had more shots and shots on target than any other Arsenal player in the game and he led the Gunners for touches in the opposition box (12), duels won (8) and successful dribbles (4).

The Nigeria-born England international has now scored six goals and provided five assists in 13 games in the competition.

The UEFA’s Technical Observer Panel hailed Saka for his hard work and ingenuity.

‘He showed the capability to create something from nothing and a great individual quality. He worked hard off the ball and found positions to give width to his team. A very complete performance from the left-footed right winger,’ wrote the panel.

Before the game, Arsenal had failed to score in their last four Champions League away games but at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, they did not just score five times by five different scorers,
the Gunners also equaled their best ever away win in the #UCL era, while their xG of 3.89 is their most in an away match in the Champions League on record (since 2013/14).

Arsenal mauled Inter Milan 5-1 at the San Siro on November 25, 2003 to set the club’s biggest away win record that was equaled Tuesday night.
