Fulham boss, Silva: ‘Iwobi is a fantastic footballer’

Fulham boss, Marco Silva hailed matchwinner Alex Iwobi’s ‘outstanding’ contribution in his side, Fulham’s 3-1 defeat of Brighton a Craven Cottage.

The former Arsenal and Everton star bagged a brace in the game, his second in 267 Premier League matches.

‘Alex has been outstanding from the first day of pre-season. He is in a happy place and he is a fantastic footballer. Last season was his best season in the Premier League and one or two months ago I said he would be even better in this one.

‘He is really versatile, and I can use him in many different positions. He’s a top player with the way he can assist and score goals more than ever. What a game for him and he deserved all the credit,’ Silva told the BBC after the game.

Iwobi capitalized on Bart Verbruggen’s early error in the fourth minute to get the home side off to a flying start and cemented the Cottagers win with his brilliant curling strike to make it 3-1 on 87 minutes.

The Nigerian was voted the official Premier League man of the match and his five goals in 14 appearances so far this term are the most he has scored in a Premier League season, equaling his feat of last season when he also netted five times in 30 appearances.

The win was his sixth in 13 appearances against Brighton and the brace increases his goals haul against the Seagulls to three.

The Nigerian has now won 107 times in 267 Premier League appearances.
