Iwobi targets first Premier League goal vs Chelsea in six years, third Boxing Day win

Alex Iwobi has scored five goals in 17 Premier League games so far this term, the highest he has netted at the stage of the competition since he made his debut in October 2015.

The 28-year-old is just one goal away from setting personal goals record of six in a single Premier League season and will feel he is in a good run of form, especially in front of goal to score for the first against Chelsea in six years.

The last time the former Arsenal star scored against the west London side was in August 2018 when he drew the Gunners’ 2-2 level after 42 minutes but the north London sode eventually lost the game 3-2 due to an 82nd minute goal by Marcos Alonso at Stamford Bridge.

The Nigerian also netted against Arsenal in the Europa League final in May 2019, scoring the Gunners’ only goal in a 4-1 rout.

On Boxing, the Nigerian will hope to inspire Fulham to their seventh Premier League win of the season, but the former Everton midfielder knows it will be a tough game against an in-form team at Stamford Bridge.

‘Confident team. They have got so many talented players not just the eleven. But the players they can bring on as well can impact the game. It is another derby. So, I am sure, how good you’re going to be out the window. It is going to be war,’ Iwobi told the club’s official website.

Iwobi will be making his 18th appearance against Chelsea across all competitions, the most he has made against any team in the Premier League. He has won seven, drawn four and lost seven of the 17 appearances he has made thus far against their host.

He has also won just two of the six Boxing Day Premier League appearances he has thus, drawn one and lost three.
