Marco Arop: ‘I might sound crazy to say this but I do think I can break 3:30 for 1500m at some point’
Paris 2024 Olympics 800m silver medalist, Marco Arop of Canada believes he is capable of breaking 3.30 in the 1500m.
The 2023 World 800m champion is also eyeing Kenyan, David Rudisha’s 1:40.91 World record in the two full laps race and make a successful defence of his World ttile this September in Tokyo, Japan at the 20th edition of the World Athletics Championships.
Arop holds a lifetime best of 3:38.36 in the 800m which he achieved in 2023 and set a new 1:41.20 Canadian and north American record which he set on his way to winning the Olympic silver medal behind Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi in Paris.
The 26 year old is however confident he can break 3:30 for 1500m and also race past Rudisha’s incredible world record.
He believes the Grand Slam Track, Michael Johnson’s new elite competition will offer him the platform to race in the 1500m against a star-studded lineup of middle-distance legends like Josh Kerr, Cole Hocker, and Yared Nuguse.
‘I might sound crazy to say this but I do think I can break 3:30 for 1500m at some point,’ Arop said in an interview with Citius Magazine.
