Rita Mosindi removed as AFN Secretary General!
Twice indicted, first by an Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, audit committee, and, later by a Ministerial investigative committee to unravel Nigeria’s negative exposures at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Rita Mosindi has finally been removed as the Secretary General of the AFN.
Mosindi was indcited by an AFN audit committee over misappropriation, misapplication over funds as we all as for incompetence among other infractions. The committee even recommended she was not fit to head any sports federation.
‘The Secretary General should refund all monies spent without budgets and approvals while the Federal Ministry of Sports should urgently redeploy the Secretary General as she has proved not to have the capacity to head the secretariat of the federation and be its chief administrative and accounting officer,’ wrote the committee in its report submitted to the AFN Board in October 2023.
The Ministerial investigative committee set up by former Sports Minister, John Enoh also found Mrs Mosindi incompetent and recommended she should be sanctioned by her employers.
‘Conclusive evidence revealed, however, that the Secretary General of the AFN, Mrs. Rita Mosindi, was NEGLIGENT in her duty of communicating to the Ministry of Sports Development and the Nigeria Olympic Committee information about Favour Ofili’s event status in a reliable and timely manner. Mrs. Mosindi should be PENALIZED by the appropriate authority,’ wrote the committee in the summary of its report.
The National Sports Commission, NSC, seemed to have heeded the two committees’ recommendations by returning Mrs Mosindi to the office (NSF/PARA) instead of posting her to head another sports federation.
Meanwhile, a former assistant Secretary General of the AFN, Israel Inwang Mfon, has been moved from the Mixed Martial Arts to become the substantive Secretary General of the AFN.
