Joy is coming… Ofili sends cryptic message ahead of 2025 athletics season

Paris 2024 Olympics 200m finalist, Favour Ofili has posted a cryptic message on her social platforms informing of good news in the coming hours, days, weeks or…

The 22-year-old was traumatized at the Olympics last year after irresponsible Athletics Federation of Nigeria officials failed to register her name for the 100m event after posting wind-aided times of 10.78 and 10.85 weeks leading to the Games.

On the eve of 2025, Ofili wrote about her overcoming the trauma she was subjected to following the incident at the Olympics in Paris.

‘If I were to boast about anything this year (2024), it would be my enduring mental and physical resilience,’ she wrote on her X handle on December 30, a day before she turned 22.

The Nigeria 200m record holder, indoors and out, seemed to have moved on from the disappointment of 2024 and is looking forward to 2025 with loads of expectations.

‘Joy is coming…,’ she wrote on the ninth day of the new year and her message could be interpreted to mean so many things. It could mean signing a new kits and equipment sponsorship deal or moving over to a new coach.

What would give Nigerians the greatest joy however would be if she goes to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan to become the first Nigerian, man or woman, to mount the podium in the 100m event or become the second Nigerian woman after Blessing Okagbare to win a medal in the 200m event at the championships.

Better still, Nigerians would be mad with joy if Ofili becomes the first Nigerian to win a World outdoor title in the 100 or 200m events or both!.
