Osimhen nets 15th goal in 19 games for Galatasaray, moves joint third in Nigerian all-time list of top scorers

Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen returned to Europa League action to score in his club’s 3-3 draw with Ukrainian side, Dynamo Kiev in a Europa League group stage game at the Rams Park on Tuesday.

The Nigerian missed the 2-2 draw away at Malmo FF the last time due to a muscle strain but the 26-year-old returned to score his fourth goal in five appearances in the competition so far this season to take his total tally to eight in 13 games.

Osimhen has now scored 15 goals across all competitions for Galatasaray since he joined on loan from Serie A side, Napoli last September.

The former Lille of France player has moved up to joint second in the top scorers’ list for this season in the Europa League and joint third among all Nigerians who have played in the competition.

Only the duo of Obafemi Martins (13 in 27 games) and Victor Boniface (11 in 18 appearances) have scored more than the Galatasaray forward.

Meanwhile, Osimhen has revealed post-match his frustrations with the scoreline against a team that has won just a point in seven group games in the competition but has turned his focus against Ajax in their next group game next week.

“We couldn’t win this match but our goal is to beat Ajax away next week. I believe we can do that too. Results like this one happen. We did not give our opponents many chances, and created a lot; the statistics show this, but the scoreline does not.

“We are disappointed. We thought we deserved more. We need to take responsibility as a team. We all made mistakes. [Dynamo] also fought well. We could have scored more goals today. We need to learn from our mistakes and be better,’ Osimhen told the official UEFA website.
