It’s Olympic champion Vs World Indoor and Outdoor champions in Karlsruhe indoor Shot Put battle

It will be a battle of reigning global champions in the Shot Put event of the INIT Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe – a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold fixture – on 7 February.

There in Karlsruhe, the 22nd-largest city in Germany, home girl and reigning Olympic shot put champion and 2025 world leader, Yemisi Ogunleye of Germany with take on reigning World champion Chase Jackson and world indoor champion Sarah Mitton in what will be a replay of their encounter at the 2024 World Indoor Championships in Glasgow.

Mitton emerged victorious on that occasion with Yemisi was second with a new 20.19m lifetime best while Jackson finished third.

This time around, Ogunleye, who threw 18.98m to win in Dortmund last week and move top of the World list, will want to prove she is not only ready for the fight but also that her triumph at the Paris 2024 Olympics was not by happenstance.

Ogunleye holds a 2-0 head-to-head record against Jackson in the event indoors albeit the American has a better 9-4 record against the Nigerian-German outdoor and indoors put together.

Canadian, Mitton however has a better head-to-head 1-0 record against Ogunleye indoors and 6-3 overall (indoors and out).

Also set for action and to defend her 2025 World lead (6.79m) is German and former Olympic Long Jump champion, Mihambo Malaika.
