Awoniyi dismisses West Ham rumours, says: I’m not thinking about leaving Nottingham Forest

Taiwo Awoniyi has dimissed reports linking him with a move to Premier League rival, West Ham following his indifferent start to the 2024/25 Premier League season.

The Nigerian has started just two of the 17 games he has played in the Premier League so far this season and has scored just once unlike his first two seasons when he scored 10 goals in 27 games to end his first season as his club’s top scorer in the competition and scored eight times in 20 games of an injury-plagued second season.

The 27-year-old is however confident of still making an impact at Nottingham Forest and wants to help the club to a Champions League spot since the 1980/81 season.

‘Transfers are part of football, and there will always be speculation, but my focus is entirely on Nottingham Forest.

“This is a team with a lot of potential and I want to be here to help achieve something special. I’m not thinking about leaving, I’m thinking about how I can contribute more to the success of this club.

“For me, it’s about staying prepared and taking my chances when they come. My personal goal is to contribute more, whether that’s scoring, assisting, or pushing my teammates to be better. But it’s not just about me, it’s about the team.

“Forest’s success is my success and as long as we keep moving forward, I’m happy. Balancing personal ambition with team goals is easier when you genuinely believe in the bigger picture,’ the Nigerian told SportsBoom.
