AFCON 2025: ‘I believe we are ready to take on teams we have been pitted against,’ says Uganda head coach, Put
Cranes of Uganda are confident of securing one of the two automatic tickets for the first knockout phase of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following Monday night’s draw in Morocco which pitted them against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia and the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in Group C.
Cranes coach; Pal Joseph Put who guided Burkina Faso to the final of the competition against Nigeria in 2013 is relishing the challenge.
‘At this stage, there are no small teams. I believe we are ready to take on teams we have been pitted against. As I always say, the stronger the wave, the stronger the ship,’ he told the Ugandan Mirror.
Team captain, Khalid Aucho and striker, Denis Omedi share in the gaffer’s sentiments.
‘Being at AFCON means you are strong enough to compete with any team. I know my boys, and they will deliver. We want to make our fans happy,’ said Aucho who will be making his third appearance in the competition.
For Omedi, the Cranes will be in Morocco to defend Uganda.
‘It’s not a bad group, but no game will be easy. The first match (Vs Tunisia) is crucial, and we must stay focused. We are in Morocco to defend our nation,’ he said.
Uganda defeated Nigeria 2-1 at the semifinal stage of the competition in Kumasi, Ghana in 1978.
