Carrick: Iheanacho’s quality is pretty obvious’
Middlesbrough manager, Michael Carrick has expressed delight with the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho on loan from LaLiga side, Sevilla.
Iheanacho joined the Riverside outfit on loan from Sevilla and Carrick believes the Nigerian will hit the ground running immediately as he is not knew to English football, especially at tier two level that the Sky Bet Championship represents.
‘We’re delighted to get Kelechi in. His quality is pretty obvious and he knows what it takes to be successful at this level from last year.
‘He played in the Premier League for a number of years. He’s a quality, quality player and we’re really happy to have him,’ said Carrick, a Man United legend who who made 701 appearances in English football including 464 across all competitions for the Red Devils.
Carrick says Iheanacho is not replacement for Cote d’Ivoire forward, Emmanuel Latte Lath who left to join Atalanta United in the Major League Soccer, MLS.
‘He’s not a replacement. It’s never one player for one player. It’s a collective responsibility. Tommy [Conway] has scored a good number of goals when he’s been fit this season – good minutes per goal ratio. We’ve got enough throughout the frontline – creating goals, scoring goals. That’s not the issue of why we aren’t getting enough points,’ said the gaffer.
