All eyes of Ramot Jimoh and Fakorede at Charlie Thomas Invitational on Saturday

After chopping off four seconds of her personal best last month, all eyes will be on Mississippi State University Junior, Ramot Abike Jimoh on Saturday when she files out for the 800m event at the Charlie Thomas Invitational at Bryan-College Station in Texas.

Jimoh, a product of the Osheku Athletics Academy, has been tipped to be the first Nigerian, indoors and out, to break two minutes in the two full lap race and the 21 year old will be looking to make another huge statement of intent on Saturday.

Last month, Jimoh scorched to a brilliant 2:04.97 to set a new lifetime best at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex in Clemson, South Carolina. The time moved her to second in the Nigerian all-time list of 800m performers indoors behind another Osheku Academy product, Abike Egbeniyi who holds the Nigerian record (2:03.65).

The 21 year old will be aiming to run even faster and could become the fastest Nigerian ever over the distance and move closer to breaking the two metres barrier.

Also at the same meeting, new sprint sensation, Adekalu Fakorede could become the 17th Nigerian to duck inside 6.60 in the 60m event after running 6.64 to seal his place in the semifinal of the event scheduled for Saturday.

Fakorede has been one of the big revelations of the season after storming to a 6.60 lifetime best last month at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex in Clemson, South Carolina in in his debut season indoors.

He could also become the fourth Nigerian to do so this year after the trio of Joshua Caleb (6.57), Emmanuel Ekanem Consider who set the Charlie Thomas arena record of 6.57 this year and reigning Nigeria 100m champion, Kanyinsola Ajayi who also ran a new 6.57 lifetime best last month.
