Awoniyi becomes 51st Nigerian to score in the FA Cup, stretchered off the pitch after 10 minutes of treatment

Taiwo Awoniyi scored his first goal in the FA Cup in Tuesday night’s fourth round game against League One side, Exeter City FC at the St. James Park in Exeter, the Cathedral city in Southwest England.

The Nigerian, playing in his fourth game in the competition since he moved to England in July 2022, put his side, Nottingham Forest lead on 37 minutes after Ramón Sosa drew the visitors level on 15 minutes following the host’s fifth minute lead by Josh Magennis.

The goal means Awoniyi is the 51st Nigerian to score in the history of the competition which has Kelechi Iheanacho as the most prolific Nigerian nay African man in the FA Cup with 18 goals from 25 matches.

Awoniyi’s compatriot at the club, Ola Aina was not dressed for the game and the wing-back has scored once in four appearances in the competition.

Meanwhile, Awoniyi was stretchered off later in the game after receiving treatment for 10 minutes on the pitch after he collided with Exeter goalkeeper.
