Retired athletics coach Harrison Momoh is dead!
Retired athletics coach Harrison Momoh has died at the age of 83.
Coach Momoh died Saturday morning in Ilorin.
Former African Games 100m hurdles queen, Taiwo Aladefa broke the news early Saturday morning in a WhatsApp message.
‘Just to let you know my coach, coach Harrison Momah, passed on to Glory a few minutes ago! May his gentle, sweet, and selfless spirit rest in peace!
‘He was 83. It’s fresh but quite devastating!!,’ wrote Aladefa, the first Nigerian sprint hurdler to break 13 seconds in the 100m hurdles.
Kayode Afolabi, a former athlete and member of Kwara state athletics association, also confirmed the passing of the renowned coach.
‘Yes. On my way to his house,’ Afolabi confirmed in a text message to our correspondent’s enquiry.
Coach discovered and nurtured into international stardom several Nigerian athletes, including the Aladefas (Taiwo, Kehinde and Ayo), the Akinremi sisters (Omolade Akinremi, Omotayo Akinremi, Christy Akinremi and Ibukun Akinremi), Olopade Adeniken, the first Nigerian man to run a sub-10 seconds in the 100m event, Bisi Afolabi and Saidat Onanuga among several others.
