Rwanda name Algerian, Amrouche new Amavubi head coach ahead of FIFA World Cup qualifier Vs Nigeria
Algerian tactician, Adel Amrouche has been named the new head coach for the Amavubi of Rwanda ahead of the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifying game against Nigeria later this month.
Amrouche, 56, replaces German gaffer Frank Torsten Spittler whose contract wasn’t extended when it ended in December 2024.
The Algerian has been without a job since he left his post as manager of Taifa Stars of Tanzania in January in 2024.
He has also coached many African countries prior to the Tanzanian job.
He was head coach of Botswana, Libya, Kenya, Burundi and holds a UEFA Pro Coaching Licence.
The Algerian has faced the Super Eagles thrice. He drew one and lost two.
He was in charge of Kenya when they lost 1-0 in Nairobi and drew 1-1 in Nigeria in the qualifying games for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Stephen Keshi (now late) was in charge of the Super Eagles at the time.
Amrouche’s latest encounter with the Super Eagles was in October 2018 when Nigeria bashed his team, Libya 4-0 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo. Gernot Rohr was in charge of the Super Eagles at the time.
At club level, Amrouche was at the helm of affairs at some of Africa’s biggest football clubs including Motema Pembe as well as MC Algiers.
At Amavubi, he will be supported by Eric Nshimiyimana as first assistant and Dr. Carolin Braun as the second assistant.
