Dikko: ‘We are now tilting more towards developing our domestic tournaments so that we can discover fresh talents’

Believes collaboration between the NSC and FRSC will be in the best interest of Nigerian sports

National Sports Commission Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko has applauded the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) for its great exploits in sports even as he has pointed out that a collaboration between the NSC and FRSC will be in the best interest of Nigerian sports.

Mallam Dikko made this observation while hosting a delegation of the Sports Department of the FRSC led by Director of Sports, Corps Commander Daniel Asanya.

The NSC Chairman believes that considering the giant strides recorded by FRSC, they should play a cardinal role in the new sporting dispensation.

His words, “Based on the mandate handed to us by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, we are doing things differently in Nigerian sports now. We are moving from this competition-driven disposition to a development-driven one. We are now tilting more towards developing our domestic tournaments so that we can discover fresh talents.

“Looking at all these trophies you have lined up here, it is obvious that FRSC is a major player in Nigerian sports and we need to forge a collaboration. We need to know your sports programs and vice-versa so that we can know where and how we can come in. Similarly, we need to get you involved more in our activities in the Commission.

“Some of these collaborations can involve you coming in with your core competences. For instance, one of our biggest problems when we have big tournaments at the MKO Abiola Stadium is traffic control. With proper collaboration, FRSC can help us sort that out.

The NSC Chairman reiterated the Commission’s resolve to host as many international tournaments as possible.

“We want to host as many tournaments as possible. By next week, this stadium will be hosting the African Women Volleyball Club Championship. And there are many more lined up. The logistics for these tournaments which include traffic control will rub off on how many of these tournaments we host”, he added.

Earlier CC Asanya had listed the sporting accomplishments of the FRSC headlined by Safety Babes who have consecutively won the Nigerian Handball League for the past five years and the African number one badminton player Anuolwapo Juwon Opeyori who is also a staff of FRSC.

While conveying the goodwill message of the FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed to the NSC Chairman, he voiced FRSC’s desire to contribute towards boosting the nation’s sporting records.
