Leicester City 0-3 Newcastle: Ndidi makes 200th Premier League start as Foxes set unwanted record
Nigerian rated below average in underwhelming showing at King Power stadium
Wilfred Ndidi made double history on a miserable night for him and Leicester City on Monday. The 28-year-old started his 22nd game in 22 matches he has featured in this term in the Premier League.
It was also his 200th start in 214 appearances in the competition since he made his debut in January 2017.
The former KRC Genk of Belgium has thus become the fourth Nigerian to start at least 200 Premier League games after Alex Iwobi (222), Joseph Yobo (212) and Yakubu Aiyegbeni (216).
The Nigerian could not however inspire the Foxes against Newcastle United who came to the King Power stadium, saw and annihilated the Foxes with three first half goals.
Leicester last scored in front of their own fans against Brighton on 8 December and drawing another blank meant they became the first side in Football League history to lose eight home league games in a row without scoring a goal.
With 31 games played, Ndidi and Leicester City are heading towards an immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship, just like the duo of Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu whose relegation with Southampton was sealed on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the inluential Leicester Mercury newspaper has rated Ndidi below average in the 3-0 loss to Newcastle.
‘He (Ndidi) was energetic but low in quality. He got into advanced positions more, but did little when he got there, while he did seem to be bypassed defensively. On the ball in his own half, he was again targeted for the quick press,’ wrote the newspaper who gave the midfielder four out of 10 marks.
