NPFL: Incredible Ikorodu City Chase Shooting Stars Out Of Top 4 With Six Games To Go

An incredible six-goal masterclass from Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, debutants Ikorodu City FC in their rescheduled Matchday 31 clash against Katsina United not only earned the Oga Boys their 14th win of their first season in the Nigerian topflight, with 12 coming from home, they also supplanted their new bitter rival, Shooting Stars in the Top Four positions.

Five players found the back of the net, with super-sub Ayomide Cole stealing the show — bagging a brace and an assist to cap off a dominant performance.

Right-back Waliu Ojetoye made three assists in the drubbing to become the second Ikorodu City player to provide three assists in the NPFL this season after Harrison Uzondu’s treble against Lobi Stars on Matchday 8.

This is the biggest win in the NFPL so far this season and the victory has ensured the Oga Boys have moved into the top four ahead of Shooting Stars with 49 points from 32 games while the Oluyole Warriors who were fined by the NPFL for their unruly fans’ behavior following their 0-0 draw with Ikorodu City are now fifth with 48 points from the same number of matches.

Ikorodu City have now won home and away against two teams in their debut season in the NPFL viz Lobi Stars and Katsina United.

They will face Niger Tornadoes at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena at Onikan, Lagos where they slaughtered Katsina United 6-0 and could possibly move into top three with a win, hoping third place Abia Warriors would stumble when they host Rivers United this weekend.

Shooting Stars would be away at Bayelsa United on Friday, a team that has won their last three home games while the Oluyole Warriors have not won on the road since December when they pipped Rangers 1-0 in Enugu.
