Tebogo tops list of four Africans listed in provisional list for men’s 100m at Xiamen Diamond League meeting
Omanyala, Eseme and Simbine complete list
As many as four African sprinters led by Paris 2024 Olympics 200m champion, Letsile Tebogo of Botswana have been named in a provisional list 10 athletes for the 100m event in Xiamen, China, the opening leg of the 2025 Diamond League meetings.
Also listed is African record holder and reigning Commonwealth Games champion, Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya, World indoor 60m bronze medal winner, Akani Simbine of South Africa and Cameroonian, Eseme Emmanuel.
The four Africans have all broken 10 seconds in their career with Simbine currently the fastest man this year after running 9.90 to win the blue ribband race at the Botswana Grand Prix last week.
The Africans will battle ‘another African’, Jeremiah Azu of Great Britain, Christian Coleman of the USA, Kennedy Lachlan of Australia, Sani Brown Abdul Hakim of Japan, Jamaica’s Watson Rohan and home boy, Xie Zhenye for the maximum points and $10,000 top prize.
Nigerians are still waiting to see who succeeds Divine Oduduru as the first and only man from Africa’s most populous nation to run in the 100m event at athletics’ elite one day meeting series.
