Naija EPL Preview: Iwobi gets penultimate chance to score 10th goal of season; Aribo and Onuachu target first ever win against Man City

Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey are expected to be in action on Saturday when Fulham host Everton in the final home game of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Iwobi, who has scored twice and won four times in seven appearances against the Toffees in the Premier League, will be seeking to score his 10th goal and provide his record-equaling seventh assist of the season.

The 28-year-old is seeking to become the 10th Nigerian to score at least 10 goals in a Premier League season. He is also keen to play in all 38 games of a Premier League season for only the second time.

The first time he did this was in 2022/23 season when as an Everton player, he became the second Nigerian after Joseph Yobo (also at Everton at the time) to start all 38 games of a Premier League season.

Bassey will however be seeking to win against Everton for the first time in his second appearance against the Toffees. In his first game against David Moyes’ side last October, the Nigerian helped Fulham leave Goodison Park with a point following a 1-1 draw.

At the St Mary’s stadium, Joe Aribo will be looking to return to reckoning in the game after he was left on the bench as an unused substitute in Southampton’s last four games.

The 28 year old was subbed on in the last 30 minutes of his last appearance against Man City when his club lost 1-0 at the Etihad in October and will hope for a start and his first win in three games against the former Premier League champions.

His compatriot, Paul Onuachu has found his scoring boots and has scored four times and provided one assist since he netted his first goal in the competition in January.

The 30 year old featured for just three minutes when Southampton lost 1-0 last October at the Etihad but looks certain to start in only his second game against Pep Guardiola’s side in the competition.

On Sunday, the Nigerian duo of Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi know they have to help the Tricky Trees win all their remaining three games to stand a chance of playing in the UEFA Champions League.

Aina, one of the standout players for Forest this season, will be making his 89th Premier League appearance if he features against the Leicester City who will be visiting the City Ground on Sunday.

He has lost just one of the four games he has played against Wilfred Ndidi’s team and will be keen to make it four wins in five and probably score for the third time this season to set a personal season’s goal record.

Aina’s compatriot at the club, Awoniyi was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace this last time and will be keen to make his third start of the campaign in 26 appearances against a team he has not scored against in two appearances.

Ndidi is down and out of the Premier League with the Foxes for the second time in three seasons but the 28 year old will be keen to win against a team he has lost against in his last two appearances.
